Math Calculators

These math calculators handle the problems that come up most in homework, exam revision and everyday number work. Graph up to three functions at once and read off where they cross the axes, add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions and mixed numbers, solve linear, quadratic and cubic equations, and differentiate functions up to the third derivative.

Wherever possible the answers are exact. The fraction calculator uses whole-number arithmetic, so 1/2 + 1/3 is 5/6, not 0.8333. The algebra calculator gives fractional and square-root answers such as (5 ± √13)/2 alongside decimal values, and lists complex solutions when there are no real ones. The derivative calculator works symbolically, so you get a simplified formula like 2x·sin(x) + x²·cos(x) rather than a single number. You can still evaluate it at any point.

Each page explains the method behind the answer: the rules for adding and dividing fractions, the quadratic formula and the discriminant, the power, product and chain rules, and how to choose a good graphing window. Worked examples show every step, so you can check your own work rather than just copy a result. Common mistakes, such as dropping the ± or forgetting the chain rule, are called out on each page.

Type expressions the way you would on a scientific calculator: use ^ for powers, sqrt() for square roots, and sin, cos, tan, exp and log for the usual functions. Multiplication can be written with * or left out between a number and a variable, so 3x works.
